The Void We Sought to Fill
Arthaa Studio was born from a necessity to restore the human soul to the built environment. In an era of sterile, mass-produced artifacts, we identified a void — a lack of Meaning.
Handcrafted luxury decor that blends traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics.
Derived from the Sanskrit Artha — one of the four goals of human life — our brand is rooted in purpose. Every design must be a bridge between the celestial and the terrestrial, using light, symmetry, and material as our primary syntax.
Why We Started Arthaa
Arthaa was not started because of an opportunity. It was started because of a frustration.
Walk through any furniture market in Bengaluru — or any design showroom across the city — and you will find the same mirrors, the same ceramic platters, the same wooden wall panels, reproduced endlessly by artisans who are extraordinarily skilled but rarely encouraged to do anything other than repeat what sold last season. The craft exists. The skill exists. What was missing was design.
We were tired of compromising. Tired of bringing home objects that were perfectly acceptable and completely forgettable. Tired of a market where ‘handcrafted’ had become a label pasted on things made the same way, in the same finish, for the last thirty years. Walk into most Indian homes today and the mirrors and ceramics look like they came from the same three suppliers. Because they did.
The question that started Arthaa was simple: what if India’s extraordinary craft traditions were directed by genuine design sensibility? What if the same hands that were making forgettable mirrors were given sketches they had never seen before — and the time and trust to execute them?
Every object in our catalogue is an answer to that question.

Naveen brings the operational and commercial backbone of Arthaa. With deep expertise in product development, artisan sourcing, and digital marketing, he is the bridge between the studio’s creative vision and the customers who find it. Before Arthaa, he spent years navigating India’s artisan supply chain — building a network of craftsmen, material suppliers, and finishing specialists across Bengaluru, Rajasthan, and Tamil Nadu that most studios take decades to establish. His background in digital marketing means Arthaa approaches its audience with clarity: knowing who is buying, why they are buying, and how to reach them without noise.
Achala Rao
Co-Founder — Design & Creative Direction
Achala is Arthaa’s creative force. A trained architect with award-winning designs to her name, she brings a rigorous contemporary sensibility to craft traditions that are long overdue for reinvention. Her training taught her that every form has a reason, that materials have a logic, and that the most enduring objects are those where function and beauty have been resolved — not traded off. At Arthaa, she applies that instinct at the scale of a mirror frame, a ceramic platter, or a wall panel. Her design language is contemporary without being cold, rooted in Indian visual heritage without being nostalgic. Every collection begins with a sketch from her — and ends only when the prototype matches it.

Every design begins in our studio and is made only here. No moulds passed between workshops, no catalogue repeated for thirty years. The piece you bring home exists nowhere else.

We make objects to be lived with and passed on — not consumed and replaced. Each one earns its place through intention, not novelty.

Finished by Hand
Turned, cast, carved, and sealed by the artisan who signs it. The marks of the maker are never polished away — they are the proof of the work.
In a world of fast fashion and disposable decor, we choose the slow path. Every mirror frame is hand-turned, every ceramic platter is hand-painted, and every brass figurine is cast with intention.

Three Materials, Known by Name
Teak
We work almost exclusively in solid teak — close-grained, naturally oil-rich, and stable enough to be turned and carved without cracking. It is sourced from managed plantations, not old-growth forest. Left in a natural matte finish, the grain of each board decides the final surface, so no two frames are ever identical.
Brass
Our brass is cast in single pours and finished entirely by hand. It is a material with a long memory in Indian homes — passed between generations, polished by use rather than worn by it. Each figurine is weighted to sit with intent on a shelf, a desk, or a puja corner.
Stoneware
Our ceramics are high-fired stoneware, not earthenware — denser, harder, and built to be used rather than only displayed. Each piece is hand-painted and glazed in small batches, which means slight variation from one to the next. That variation is the proof of the hand, not a flaw.
